Officer Vallin and his K9, Xander visited the first grade students at Quinnipiac today! We have been learning about wants and needs and how people want pets. But we were wondering if there was ever a case where someone needed a pet? Officer Vallin explained to us how he needs Xander to help him complete his job. Xander helps him search for lost items and people and he obeyed Officer Vallin's every command. We even got to participate in a demonstration of how Xander could search for and find a lost item! We learned a lot about the jobs of a K9 in the police force. Thank you to Officer Vallin and Xander for a great, informative visit!
Today was our first field trip this year. We have been learning all about life cycles in our class and came here to learn about the life cycle of a frog. We first learned all about the stages in a frog life cycle and then went and built a carousel which shows each stage (egg -> tadpole -> tadpole with legs -> adult frog). We can't wait to watch our classroom tadpole go through each of these stages!
Since we have been studying life cycles, and pet wants & needs, we decided to get a class pet so we can observe a life cycle transformation! Today we received a tadpole and we are going to observe him transform into a frog! Each day we have to feed Toby and make sure he has clean water each week, since those are things he needs to survive. We will be observing his changes each day and are anxiously awaiting his transformation into a frog! |
